We already pointed out that Larabars tend to be a little high in natural sugar. So what can you do when you get a craving for a mobile, portable slightly sweet snack? Grab a SoG Primal Peach Patty.
These bad boys have about 110 calories each and less than 6 grams of natural sugar. That means that you could get away with eating 3 or 4 of these without reaching the sugar in a Larabar. they are also very very easy to make.
They are slightly sweet with a pretty awesome texture (it is VERY similar to bread for those of you trying to kick the grain habit.
Ingredients:
1 cup dried peaches (the chewy kind… not freeze dried)
1 cup roasted almonds
1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 egg
Directions:
1. Put peaches, almonds and coconut in a food processor. Pulse until nicely broken down.
2. Drizzle in olive oil while pulsing mixture.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine mixture with egg and mix thoroughly.
4. Make 10 “patties” by rolling and pressing this “dough” with your hands and place on a baking sheet
5. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
6. Enjoy!
These are a little sweet and “bready” for my liking but my wife absolutely loves them and I have had a few friends give them the thumbs up.
Try it and let me know what you think!

Thanks crew. As I said, I wasn’t the biggest fan but my wife was so I hope you all enjoy them!

SOG, why don’t you start your own line of bars? Anyone can start a food company. Seriously ask Mark about copackers, distributors, suppliers, manufacturers, fulfillment houses and costumer service departments.

JE Gonzalez,
Lol thanks, I wouldn’t even know where to begin though and that sounds expensive. These are easy enough to make that anyone can do it too!

Andrew,
I used to have latkes at a friends house growing up. I remember them being pretty good… I think they are made from potatoes though (?) so i will probably never eat them again!
On another note, anyone try these yet?
January 14th, 2009 - 9:09 am
I tried them. Mine came out deliciously chewy! Maybe it’s a girl thing? My SO was not so much a fan either.
January 14th, 2009 - 9:13 am
Rachel,
Lol maybe… My wife continues to swear by them. Maybe its a texture thing… they are chewy/spongy/bready.

Yeah I liked them but think if the texture was more moist I’d like them more.

Btw, this recipe looks pretty great for flourless, potato-less latkes! I’d think you could also sub something like turnips or zucchini to go even lower-carb.

I made these with apricots instead of peaches this morning. My grocery didn’t have any dried peaches. Very good!
Next weekend I’ll tackle SoG bars.
Thanks for the recipes. Keep them coming!

Candy,
I am glad you enjoyed them. Apricots are always yummy. SoG bars are easier than they sound lol. I have many more recipes to come!

I made these last night using dried apricots instead of peaches. I really like them, they have a comforting texture, like a chewy cookie, but with less sweetness. I would suggest reducing the cooking time to 15-18 minutes, as I cooked mine for almost 20 and they were a little burnt on the bottom and edges.

SpecialK,
I am glad you enjoyed them! Thank you for the recomendation on cooking times. I think that sounds like a very reasonable timeframe.

I just found your blog yesterday and I made these peach patties today. They are awesome! I used the 18 minute cooking time that one of your commenters recommended and they came out perfectly. I wrote up a blog post about it on my own blog.

Welcome! Thank you and thank you for the write-up! Your photography skills are obviously far superior to mine lol.

Would it work to make these raw (no egg, no oven)? Maybe adding a few apricots or other sticky dried fruit as a binder?
And you could roll them into balls (cover with coconut, if desired) and have them be popable, one bite truffles!
I’m happy to have found your blog!

~M,
That was the original intention when I started into making these. I was trying to find a somewhat sticky dried fruit that was lower in sugar than the standard fair. Unfortuantely the dried peaches were just no quite sticky enough to stay together on their own and so walla… egg.

[...] Advantages of crockpot cooking: 1. A crockpot doesn’t require constant babysitting. Just leave it be and go do all the other crap you have to get done. The crockpot will take care of your meal for you. 2. A crockpot will tenderize and soften meat for you so go ahead and use that cheaper tougher cut! 3. It is hard to burn a meal using a crockpot. 4. You a fan of stews, soups, shredded meats? A crockpot is a must have. 5. The longer cooking times mean better distribution of flavors! Yum yum and yum. 6. A crockpot leaves the stove and oven open and available for anything else you might want to cook up. Primal Peach Patties for dessert anyone? [...]

These sound wonderful! Can you use almond meal? If so should the quantity be reduced?
March 17th, 2009 - 8:14 am
Gina,
You can certainly use almond meal here. I would reduce the quantity though… otherwise they may end up a little hard or dry!

A few modifications, I made mine with hazelnuts, dried cherries, a tsp of cocoa and 1 tbsp of (gasp) honey. I made these to take to Whistler today, and they were awesome. This will definitely be a new staple in my hiking/skiing food plan.
Next, I’m thinking of trying peaches, macadamia nuts, and nutmeg…

These look so yummy, SoG! I linked to your post, citing these Peach Patties as a “primal recipe.” Wherever do you find those dried peaches? I checked Whole Foods, but may have missed ‘em. Btw, if you want them to be less bread-y, just use the yolk and a saturated fat like coconut oil.
Will be trying these when I can find the peaches!

These are good. Great warm. I used a blender. Almond meal (same amt), and I coursely chopped the peaches. Sprinkled the finished cookie with Sun Crystals. Worked well. Add a light coat of non stick spray to bake pan.
