Damage Control Master Formula
Some of you may remember that I have been trying Mark Sisson’s Damage Control Master Formula. It has been a little over a month now and I can tell you… this is some potent stuff.
The first week or so I took it, I would actually feel a little jittery or almost “strange” after I took it. I think that is because it is so strong! I was coming from taking a normal multi-vitamin and I could definitely tell a difference right off the bat. I was not expecting there to be that noticeable of a difference.
What I noticed most about the DCMF is not so much when I took it, but more when I did not take it. It has been a very busy month for me and I admittedly missed taking it a couple days. There was a very noticeable lack of energy on these days and even increased soreness from my workouts. The wife also said that I was crabbier.
Pros:
1. There is no doubt in my mind that this is some potent good stuff.
2. This is some potent good stuff!
3. It is made and manufactured by a source I trust.
4. I learned recently that the formula is updated yearly to reflect new science. That is pretty cool. No worries of my multi-vitamin becoming a dinosaur or missing out on anything beneficial.
Cons:
1. It really is expensive. After trying it, I can understand why though. It really is potent stuff which makes me think that the ingredients are probably more expensive.
2. It is a lot of pills to swallow. Each packet contains 6 pills and you are supposed to consume 2 packets per day. It really is a lot of pills to choke down.
All in all, the DCMF gets a resounding vote of approval from me. It is very expensive but I believe it to be worth it. If you can’t afford it at this time (believe me, I understand), I would highly recommend checking out some off Mark’s other products. He has a number of less expensive vitamin blends like the Damage Control Advanced Health Formula and the Damage Control Basic Assurance (which is about the same price as your average multi-vitamin).
The Damage Control Master Formula and Mark’s other products (I am a big fan of his “Vital Omegas” too) are available from his nutrition store Primal Nutrition.

I have to say- I’m certainly intrigued. You’re also taking the Vital Omegas? So I take it the damage control doesn’t include them.
What about for the ladies? Is it all the same product?

Bee,
The DCMF constists of powder capsules while the Vital Omegas is a liquid gel capsule (fish oil). I do take them together. In my opinion those are the two main supplements that help our bodies, a multi-vitamin and a fish oil. The Omegas came free with the DCMF so I subbed them in for my normal fish oil.
It would appear to be the same formula for both men and women. Looking at the ingredients, I certainly don’t see any reason why a women wouldn’t benefit from the DCMF as well.

SOG,
I agree fully with your assesment!!
The way I justify the expense is as follows;
I love life’s finer things…….but when you really stop and think….what finer things do you really need???
So imho, this is one of life’s finer things that you actually really really need.
You are buying one of if not the finest product of it’s kind on the market.

I think that the most important thing to emphasize is that it comes from a trusted source. I like the idea that you can do your research on the guy who makes it, just read his blog. If after reading all of his well written, extensively referenced posts you think that he isn’t an expert on what the body needs, then don’t buy it. But I can’t imagine that you would think that, the man knows his stuff!
All the Best,

Marc,
I know you are a fan of the DCMF! I think you even included it as part of your meal in a post once lol.
Andrew,
Totally agree. I think this may have been a rigged products review. I had a feeling it was going to turn out positive from the get go.
Mizfit,
Looking forward to the book as well. You, your hubby and Tornado have a good holiday.

SOG,
have you tryed Animal Pak? It’s the best multivitamin supplement on bodybuilding.com and i had similar experiences like the one described by you in the article.
it seems that these 2 products are from the same class

Cetateanul Astorat,
I had not heard of it until you mentioned it. I went and looked it up though. Sounds like a similar idea to the DCMF. I would be interested in seeing the Orac antioxidant rating of the animal pack and how is compares to the DCMF. I went to look at your blog and it LOOKS cool but unfortunately I can’t read it being an ignoramous americano! I only speak English, bad English and un pocito de espanol. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by the site.

SOG,
Animal Pak hit the market in 1984. This year, for the 4-th year in a row, AP was declared Multi-Vitamin Of The Year by bodybuilding.com, take a look here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/supplementawardwinners.htm
It’s 4 times cheaper than DCMF and i think you should test it. I don’t have any idea about where you can find Orac antioxidant rating of AP. I will try to put in an excel spreedsheet the ingredients of both products, to see some differences.
My blog it’s in romanian, i want to help others in my country to understand the importance of good nutrition.
I will come back here often.

Are you still taking Sisson’s Damage Control Master formula?
I’d like to try it out but the price is so ridiculously high. In addition, do you really KNOW the supplement was “working”? I take stuff and if I notice a difference at all, I certainly can’t say for certain that the supplement was the cause – there are too many factors involved. People can’t hold every other aspect constant and then try the supplement to see if it makes a difference. So how do you know the supplement was effective? When the supplement costs 10 bucks it’s no big deal, but when it’s $129 + SH, that’s something totally different. Grok must have had a big wallet.
For someone I’ve never met, I do have a certain level of trust for Mark Sisson, but I do find it odd that he also sells a product (“Responsibly Slim”) that contains stuff like Soy Protein Isolate and Sucralose.

Mark,
All very vaild points. I have not been taking the DCMF lately because of the price v economy right now. I have been taking a multi vitamin that I would consider sub-par to the DCMF but is more affordable. Once my spending money margins go back up I plan on resuming the DCMF as I really do feel that it was working. I did some independent research and was actually able to track down the 3rd party lab reports for the DCMF… it really is good stuff. As I said in my post, I could FEEL a difference when taking it. AS you said, there is no realy conrol behind it but i have the uptmost confidence that it was working and that i did notice a difference. Hope that helps!

Robert,
I like the thought of food based! will definitely check it out.
Primal Pebbles
I will check them out. As for being excipient free, gotta be honest.. that goes beyond my scope of knowledge. I would guess so(?) I trust Mark to make a pretty good product.

I’m curious whether those of us who eat well (primal) and tend to get lots of veggies in our diets could get decent benefits with only 3 of the capsules per day, thus stretching out one month’s supply to 2 months. I assume that Mark has made these capsules for the average person who’s diet is poor in veggies and berries.
I might try going the 3 capsule route and only spending about $65 per month. In fact, my wife and I could both be on the DCMF this way and still be on the auto-ship.
