Thank you for all of the great emails that you send me! I read every one of them.
Just the other day, I received an email asking what a typical day of eating looked like for me and I thought that it might be interesting to post it for all to see.
I recently upped my food consumption a bit to assist with my creatine challenge so I will give you both versions. This is just an example… meal times vary greatly as do meals but you can get a good idea. On the weekends I usually don’t fast and I and eat bacon and eggs for breakfast (I love bacon and eggs).
Before upping calories:
Fast until 3:00pm
3:00ish pm Break the fast
- Primal energy bar (basically nuts, egg whites, coconut oil, coconut, currents and almond butter. Mark has the recipe on his site but I have adapted it for myself. I will probably post it in the future)
- Piece of my homemade beef jerky
- A couple sunflower seeds and pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
- A couple mini-carrots (My OCD tells me that I count out eight)
5:00ish pm Home from work before workout (combined with 5:45 meal on non workout days)
- 1/2 grapefruit or a green apple
- Sometimes a small bit of coconut milk
5:45ish pm after workout (combined with 5:00 meal on non workout days)
- A couple of my sweet potato chips with a small bowl of salsa (only on workout days)
- bowl of egg salad or tuna salad
7:30ish pm dinner
- Meat. Usually steak with guacamole(avocado) or salmon or shrimp or meatloaf or meat stew. Also any one of my wife and my dinner creations! We are always switching it up and experimenting here.
- Veggies. Usually mixed green salad or veggie stir fry (zucchini, onions, bell pepper etc)
After Upping Calories
Pretty much the same with the following added to the listed meal
3:00ish add on
-Slice of coconut milk quiche
5:00ish add on
-Hamburger patty
After 7:30ish meal but before 9:00 (I start my fast again at 9:00pm) and only if I feel hungry
- Small bowl of plain cream on top yogurt with a couple strawberries and some almonds.
As I said, that is just an example. It will vary. I also don’t regiment as strict as this may seem. I just wanted to give a rough picture of what I might eat in a day.
What does a day of eating look like for you?

Ross,
Good looking blog you have. I like the looks at all of the different oils out there. I take a multi-vitamin (currently “Damage Control Master Formula”) and a fish oil (Currently “Vital Omegas”). I am also currently taking creatine on a guinea pig trial.
Andrew,
Steak and guacamole is awesome! Guacamole works well with almost any cut of steak. It is good with chicken turkey and even shrimp. Heck, guacamole is just good.

REally interesting foods you make. We eat quite differently actually. Its amazing how diverse the Paleo/Primal eating can actually be.

Dr Dan,
I enjoy all the food that you post at your site but you are right that we do eat somewhat differently! Interesting when you think about it, different Groks all over the world probably ate different foods but all within the same principles.

Guacamole and Pico De Gallo on everything! I’ve been on that kick lately.
Certain store bought guac from the deli section has sugar in it, so probably better off making your own.

Roger De Rok,
Gotta make your own Guac… it is so much better that way! It is easy too. I might do a guac post for those of you that don’t know how to make it soon.

Breakfast: 2 poached eggs and almond milk
Lunch: Piece of protein (chicken, fish, pork, turkey, salmon–basically whatever is decent in the work cafeteria or a leftover), some kind of non starchy green veggie, and 5-10 grams of cashews or almonds
Dinner: More meat, more veggies, a cheese plate, more nuts, and a piece of fruit if I feel like it.
I aim for ~1500 cals a day, since I’m a small female. I try to keep my carbs at or below 70 grams.
I do LOVE guac
Avocados are way up there on my list of favourite things!

Rachel,
Sounds like a very primal eating plan! How do you like almond milk? I have though about making my own but haven’t gotten around to it. I like your site by the way. I found it via feel good eating but I can’t leave you a comment as I don’t have a google or blogger account!

Mizfit,
You meant the FOOD was a lot lot yours not the post right? (I had to run over to your site and make sure I didn’t accidentally rip of your post idea for that day lol)

Almond milk is a bit of a hassle to make (although for those who make their own jerky, not intimidating at all) but yummy. This the technique I use http://www.ehow.com/how_2041161_make-almond-milk.html. Thanks for visiting, by the way. My SO and I both post. I am trying to bring him into the primal fold, mostly by showing rather than telling
Any suggestions for kicking my salt habit?

Rachel,
I am the wrong person to ask about the salt habit. I have one of my own. Jerky, green olives, pickles… almost anything salty I tend to love.
