Today’s Workout: The 300 Test

November 19th, 2008

Leonidas I am not

Leonidas I am not

Today I learned that I am definitely no Spartan.

Marc over at Feel Good Eating convinced me to do the 300 workout/test of Gym Jones fame.

This was a heck of a workout. The entire program is supposed to be completed within 20 minutes. It took me 30 minutes and I did not even compete all of the reps. The 30 minutes includes the time that I had to run to the bathroom and dry heave somewhere around the box jumps portion. I would definitely recommend this as a fun test for anyone but probably not as a regular workout. I also used 100#’s on the deadlifts and the floor wipers instead of the recommended 135#. I am going to train hard and try this one again in about a month to see if I have made any progress.

Oh yeah, and the goofy pics are just for fun!

Summary:

Tuesday Weight Time/reps
25x Pullups 25
50x Deadlift 100# 50
50x Push-up 50
50x Box Jump 50
50x Floor Wiper 100# 50
50x KB Clean and Press 20kg 16
25x Pullups 10

Post your comments if you have tried this workout/test or try it and then post your comments!

Another sad comparison

Another sad comparison. Like my broom spear? :-)

P.S. Yes, I shaved the primal beard forĀ  a while

Dude, I’m not gonna lie, this workout would kill me! I’m impressed that you even tried it, good lord! I’ll give myself a while before I’m brave enough to King Leonidas on the weights, but it’s pretty darn cool that you came so close!

    Congrats!

    All the Best,

I will conquer it. Maybe when I do, I will ear a bedsheet cape to go with my broomstick spear!

    SOG,

A fun workout…..we must be mad right??
Good for you giving it a try!
I told you on my blog that on the last 25 chin ups I literally fell off the hanging bar at #23. All my muscles simply gave out (fingers, hand, back, biceps etc)

My advice….for what it’s worth, incorporate the floor sweepers and the box jumps regularly. They are really effective strenght and endurance builders.

Thanks for getting the blog started!

Nice job! Will save this one for after the marathon next month. I am curious though, what was your fuel prior to, and how long prior to?

    Emergefit,
It was part of a very busy day. I went to work from 7:30am-4:30pm, ran home really quick to eat workout then eat then had to be back out the door and to class for 4 hours by 6:00pm so everything with fueling was really rushed. Anyways, it went like this.

Fasted from previous night to 2:30pm
2:30pm – Had some homeade beef jerky, nuts and carrots as a snack at my desk
4:45pm – “Fuel”. 1/2 a grapefruit, a shot of coconut milk and a protien almond butter ball (i make em and keep them in the fridge for times I need a quick fat/protien burst).
    4:50pm to 5:20pm – Workout
5:20pm – A couple sweet potato chips with some salsa and a bowl of my homeade tuna salad (I make a giant bowl on sunday so I have it ready to go all week)
5:32pm – back out the door for class!
10:00pm – Home from class, ate a big plate of salmon and mixed greens.

    Hope that helps!

    Marc,
Thanks for stopping by! I am going to try to incorporate some of these exercises into other workouts of mine. Probably on a higher weight, less repetition basis.

Thanks! Is there anyone in fitness that doesn’t have a “giant bowl” of something in the fridge, to dip into, at all times…? Perperation makes all the difference. Good stuff, and again, thanks.

You need some better props, SoG! Then you’d look just like him. Hahahahaha.

I can’t do like the first two things on the workout. Way to go.

  9. Primal

SOG that’s a pretty good result for a first go at it! How did you approach the reps for each – did you do all reps before switching to the next exercise or did you superset them?

I’m trying to complete this challenge in under 20 minutes – currently at prescribed weight – latest attempt took 37 minutes.

  10. Son of Grok

    Primal,
Thank you for stopping by! I completed the reps for each exercise and then moved to the next. There was no supersetting.
