Stairs, Weight Vest, Jumprope - Check

Its important to stay creative in your workouts. There is almost always SOMETHING you can do. You don’t need a gym to get a good workout.

I was planning on doing some sprints today but it was freezing outside. Instead of giving up, I found a way to do a sprint type workout inside my house.

I threw on my weight vest and ran 25 sprints up my stairs! I ran up the stairs as fast and hard as I could (Safely of course) and walked back down as my rest.

Then I did 4 sets of 100 twirls with my jump rope

Finished it off with some planks. I alternated front to side to other side and back to front for 3 “sets”

All in all it was a great workout and I didn’t even have to leave the house!

Summary:

Weight Vest Stair Sprints – 25 with 30#’s

Jump Rope – 4 sets 100 twirls

Planks – Front 1 minute, left side 30 sec, right side 30 sec. Repeat 3 times.

Jump rope and planks are definitely a part of my workouts currently. I’ve never really gotten a definitive answer on the idea of weighted vests. What made you decide to start using the weighted vests?

    Thanks for the post!

    Andrew,
I love my weighted vest. I actually plan on doing a post about it in the near future. I decided to go the weighted vest route when my body weight exercises became to easy with just my body weight. The vest is a good way to keep these exercises difficult.
I don’t actually go to a meat market (aka a gym) I have my home gym and workout outside when I can, making body weight exercises essential!
I think of it as living in the shoes of a heavier Grok for a short time.

I’d like to look into a vest for trailrunning, but right now it’s cold outside so no real room for a vest on top of a vest.

Planks… man oh man are they hard. My biggest problem is that I hold my breath and then make myself work way harder than I need to. I tend to do that on any static exercises, and also on pushups, pullups, and things like tire pulling or bear crawls.

Breathe! I could see that happening. I breathe with a count as I do them. I find that this helps me keep track of how long I have been doing the plank and also makes me breathe.
